Counselor's Corner

Watershed Education Summit

FFA students and Fish and Wildlife students just attended the Watershed Education Summit at Union Valley Reservoir. They paired up with industry professionals and collected watershed data for the USFS

The FFA Harvest Festival is Oct. 2nd from 4-6. There will be games and baked goods for sale.
Eight students are attending the Forestry Challenge competition in Shasta this week. They will be competing against 32 other teams. 
 

Fish and Wildlife with Ms. Gengler

Fish & Wildlife: Fish and Wildlife went on a field trip to Yosemite to meet with an NPS Bird Biologist and an NPS Bear Biologist. We also learned about the park's geology. Fish and Wildlife also teamed up with the Fish Biologist from the USFS, Dan Teater. We did shade surveys on Shirttail Creek to assess Yellow-legged Frog Habitat. We also saw a lot of Yellow-legged Frogs. We will do a return survey in November to assess the shade conditions after riparian thinning treatments.

The purpose of the thinning treatments is to increase Yellow-legged frog habitats. Also, Fish and Wildlife visited the CA Raptor Center, learned about raptor rehabilitation, and adopted a White-tailed Kite. We did a little bird watching at the Woodland Pacific Flyway pond and saw a lot of birds and even a Peregrine Falcon. 
 

Ag Bio with Ms. Gengler

Ag Bio Students just finished writing their paper for their science fair project. The science fair boards are due on Sept. 28th.

 

English with Mrs. Millard

English 11 students delivered speeches in class, presenting well-researched arguments either for or against later school start times in light of modern sleep research. I am so proud of their level of composure while presenting!

English 12 students participated in a classroom Poetry Slam competition, presenting original free verse poems on the topic, “Chasing the Impossible”. Students proved that, when you put your mind to something, you can achieve it. In this case, they wrote poems with multiple poetic devices, a clear tone, and an engaging message. I couldn’t be more proud of their hard work!
