FHS Portrait of a Graduate

The qualities and habits Foresthill High School seeks to develop in students as they prepare for life beyond high school.

Our Portrait of a Graduate highlights six areas of growth: Critical Thinkers, Communicator, Ownership, Get Stoked/Engaged, Resilient, and Social Emotional Awareness/Reflective.
Critical Thinkers
  • Analyze available facts, evidence, observations, and claims to create their concept of the solution.
  • The solution encompasses evaluation, analysis, and unbiased skepticism.
  • Employ self-directed, self-disciplined, self-monitored, and self-corrective habits of mind.
  • Practice these skills in a multitude of applications.
Communicator
  • Communication skills include a mix of verbal and non-verbal abilities such as facial expression, tone, voice, physical presence, and delivery.
  • The four types of communication are:
    • Written Communication
    • Verbal Communication
    • Non-Verbal Communication
    • Visual Communication
Ownership
  • A willingness to accept responsibility for one’s actions.
  • Sense of duty and pride.
  • Personal responsibility to themselves and those they work with.
  • Identify, correct, and learn from mistakes.
  • Capitalize on lessons learned and identify areas for growth.
Get Stoked / Engaged
  • Engagement refers to the degree of attention, curiosity, interest, optimism, and passion that an individual exhibits.
  • Six types of engagement:
    • Intellectual
    • Emotional
    • Behavioral
    • Physical or Kinesthetic
    • Social
    • Cultural
Resilient
  • A resilient person has strong coping skills, is able to marshal available resources, asks for help when needed, and finds ways to manage the situation they are facing.
  • Four types of resiliency:
    • Physical Resilience
    • Mental Resilience
    • Emotional Resilience
    • Social Resilience
Social Emotional Awareness / Reflective
  • Reflective in their actions and thoughts.
  • Engages in the continuous improvement cycle.
